Entrepreneur Anupam Mittal, who appears as a ‘shark’ on the reality show Shark Tank India, spoke about experiencing crushing lows in his life, and said that he has had several opportunities to acquire massive wealth, but has held out because he believes in taking risks. In an interview, he said that he has often felt that everything works out in the end, and that if he hadn’t experienced some of his biggest failures, he wouldn’t be where he is today.

In an interview with Himesh Madaan on his YouTube channel, ahead of the premiere of the fourth season of Shark Tank India, Anupam spoke about the ‘tragedies’ that he has faced in life, and said that when he reflects on them, ‘all the dots connect and it all begins to make sense’. He said, “Before going to the US, I’d failed in three or four businesses here. I started as a teenage entrepreneur, but nothing landed. I would start something new every two years. Fortunately, I got a scholarship to study in the US. If these businesses hadn’t failed, I wouldn’t have gone to the US.”

In the US, Anupam became incredibly successful. “My career was on steroids. I was a multi-millionaire in my early 20s. I got fired from my job. And that’s when I started Shaadi.com. I was gutted when I was laid off. But it was the best thing that could’ve happened to me,” Anupam said, adding that he continues to take risks even today.

He said, “I have received so many offers, I could’ve walked away with a $100 million. Rs 800 crore is not a small amount. I turned those offers down. I’ve sold a couple of companies for smaller amounts, but I’m still taking risks. There will come a time when I look back and say that I made the right choice.” Anupam will appear on the fourth season of Shark Tank India, which is due to premiere in January.
