How the audience is reacting to the chemistry between him and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan isn’t lost on Vikram. The two actors have worked together in the past, in Mani Ratnam’s Raavanan, but more recently, they played doomed lovers in the filmmaker’s two-part historical epic Ponniyin Selvan movies.
The second instalment was released on Friday, some months after part one went on to make Rs 500 crore globally. Both films have earned praise for the Aditha Karikalan and Nandini storyline, with Aishwarya and Vikram’s chemistry, both on screen and off, drawing attention. In an interview with Zoom Entertainment, Vikram spoke about this, and admitted that their characters being kept apart from each other is working in their favour.
He said, “It is very interesting because in Raavan, we do not get to be with each other. Even in PS 1, I was just there in one scene, it was hardly just a glimpse of her and me together. And again in part two, I don’t know how many scenes are we together for. I think that the love and romance between the two (characters) is so strong that the audience wants them to meet. That is why they go back to Raavan. But again in Raavan, we do not get together and that is working in our favour I think.”
Ponniyin Selvan 2 debuted in theatres on Friday and made Rs 32 crore across India. The film also stars Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala and others.
