Vignesh Shivan meets ‘neighbourhood Spider-Man’ Tobey Maguire at Cannes, shares selfie

Filmmaker Vignesh Shivan lived the dreams of most 90s kids as he bumped into the ‘friendly neighbourhood’ Spider-Man Tobey Maguire on Sunday. The director is at the Cannes Film Festival 2023 and shared a selfie with the Hollywood star. Anurag Kashyap, who is also screening his film Kennedy at the prestigious international event, met Vignesh and shared photos from their encounter on social media.

Taking to Instagram, Vignesh posted a selfie with Tobey Maguire. Twinning in black suits, both of them smiled at the camera, as Vignesh clicked the selfie. Tobey also had a bowtie in place, all prepped up for the premiere of Martin Scorsese’s film Killers of the Flower Moon.

“With Your friendly neighbourhood #SpiderMan 😍❤️❤️😊 at the world premiere of #killersoftheflowermoon @festivaldecannes @mdf_cannes #cannes,” Vignesh captioned the post. Fans were quick to comment on the picture as they wrote messages like, “Wow. This is so amazing”, “Every 90’s kids dream, to have a selfie with our childhood heroes,” and “Now you are a legend bro. You managed to take a selfie with him.”

A few hours later, Anurag Kashyap also posted photos with Vignesh and Pradeep Ranganathan from their meeting at Cannes. He wrote in the caption, “Somehow we always meet here .. @wikkiofficial and me .. and this time joined by the wonder kid @pradeep_ranganathan on his first trip to the @festivaldecannes. Watching, talking and eating cinema.”

Vignesh reposted the photos on his Instagram stories and wrote, “With the genius!” Vignesh, sharing the picture of the trio together, wrote, “Two of my fav directors! And a couple of good crazy actors.”

Vignesh and Pradeep Ranganathan have collaborated for their next Tamil film. Said to be a rom-com, the film is rumoured to be titled LIC. Anurag Kashyap, on the other hand will showcase his film Kennedy at the Midnight Screening at Cannes Film Festival 2023. The thriller stars Rahul Bhat in the lead role, and also features Sunny Leone, Aamir Dalvi and Abhilash Thapliyal.
