Even as any latest update about “Thalapathy” Vijay’s upcoming film sparks excitement among his fans, they are also tinged with a sense of bittersweetness as this project marks his final acting venture before transitioning into active politics in Tamil Nadu. Now, months after the film, helmed by H Vinoth, officially went on floors, its title has been revealed and it almost acts as a glimpse into what Vijay’s political journey might look like. Tentatively called Thalapathy 69, the movie has officially been title Jana Nayagan (People’s Hero or the Leader of the Masses).
While the announcement poster, released in September 2024, hinted that Vijay’s character would be a “torchbearer of democracy”, the latest title poster provides further insight into the film’s world and his role. Here, Vijay is seen standing atop what appears to be a large vehicle, taking a selfie with hundreds of his followers dressed in white attire and raising slogans. The poster, in fact, offers a nod to Vijay’s real-life habit of taking selfies with large crowds in a similar manner, further reinforcing the film’s connection to his persona.
Sporting a denim shirt, pants and sunglasses, completed by his signature salt-and-pepper look, Vijay beams with a smile in the image, posing with his supporters. Also, the poster has been designed by placing a small silhouette of Vijay beside the word “Jana” in the title, with his hand raised, and the minimalistic blue and white colour scheme subtly echoes Vijay’s real-world political stances.
Also starring Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain and Priyamani in key roles, Jana Nayagan is Vinoth’s sixth directorial venture following Sathuranga Vettai (2014), Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru (2017), Nerkonda Paarvai (2019), Valimai (2022) and Thunivu (2023). Produced by KVN Productions, the film features music by Anirudh Ravichander, cinematography by Sathyan Sooryan and editing by Pradeep E Ragav.
