Kanguva box office collection day 2: Despite Kanguva marking the return of Tamil superstar Suriya as a leading man on the big screen, after brief appearances in films like Vikram, Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, the film has failed to impress fans. Kanguva opened to Rs 24 crore on Thursday in all languages, and fell to Rs 9 crore on day two, according to early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk. The film is made on a budget of Rs 350 crore, according to Live Mint. Kanguva opened to negative reviews with many complaining about the “headache-inducing” volume of its background score. A blame game has already begun, with Oscar-winning sound designer Resul Pookutty blaming the makers for “innumerable last minute changes”.

Kanguva, originally made in Tamil, had around 500 shows in 2D and around 1172 shows in 3D. It is also being released in Telugu, Hindi, and Malayalam, among other languages. In Hindi, the film had about 1100 3D shows and 900 2D shows across India. In Telugu, the film had 350 shows in 2D and 300 in 3D. Overall, the film had about 4500 shows in all languages. Yet, the film witnessed very low occupancy. Kanguva witnessed 18.57% occupancy in Tamil 2D, and 25.75% in 3D.

The film, directed by Siva, is split across two time periods, and is seemingly inspired by SS Rajamouli’s Magadheera, starring Ram Charan. The film also stars Disha Patani and Bobby Deol in pivotal roles, marking their Tamil film debut.

The release of Kanguva has reduced the number of shows of Diwali releases such as Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. While Singham Again has been reduced to about 1700 shows across India due to its mixed box office performance, Kartik Aaryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 still had about 2000 shows. On its second Friday, the Rohit Shetty’s cop drama earned Rs 2.75 crore, meanwhile, Anees Bazmee’s horror-comedy earned Rs 4 crore.
