After running successfully for two weeks, Rajinikanth’s Jailer is seeing a gradual decline in box office collections. The film had a fairly good third weekend, but it minted only Rs 3 crore on Monday. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, this brings the film’s 19-day collection to a total of Rs 319.35 crore.

The film saw a 25.56 percent occupancy in the Tamil-speaking market, with most audiences heading for the night show, followed by evening, afternoon and morning shows. In the Telugu circuit, it saw a 16.06 percent occupancy on Monday, with night and afternoon shows doing the best business.

While Jailer nears the end of its run at the box office, Sunny Deol-starrer Gadar 2 continues to perform well. The film has already made more than Rs 460 crore domestically, and is hoping to beat Pathaan’s all-time record as the biggest Bollywood film of all time. But with Shah Rukh Khan’s first pan-India film, Jawan, set to release on September 7, Gadar 2 can expect to lose a lot of its screens.

Will Jailer cross 2.0’s collection?

Jailer earned a massive Rs 235.85 crore in week 1 and then saw a decline, as it grossed Rs 62.95 crore in the second week in the domestic market. Worldwide, the film has collected Rs 558.75 crore and is inching toward the Rs 600 crore mark. After surpassing the total collection of Mani Ratnam’s epic historical action movie Ponniyin Selvan: I, which earned Rs 488.36 crore during its run, the only film standing between Jailer and the title of the “highest-grossing Tamil film of all time” is S Shankar’s science-fantasy action film 2.0 (2018), featuring Rajinikanth himself. According to Sacnilk, 2.0 amassed a global box office collection of Rs 723.30 crore during its theatrical run.

Pointing out that Rajinikanth and director Nelson Dilipkumar rediscover the alchemy of a good masala film with Jailer, The Indian Express’ Kirubhakar Purushothaman wrote in his review of the film: “Jailer is Rajinikanth’s version of Kamal Haasan’s Vikram, but with a twist. Saying that doesn’t take away anything from this fun-filled entertainer.”

Jailer has Rajinikanth essaying a man out to avenge the death of his son, a cop. The film features Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar and Jackie Shroff in important cameos. The action-packed entertainer also stars Priyanka Mohan, Tamannaah Bhatia, Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Vasanth Ravi and Vinayakan.
