“Long Way 2 Go” hitmaker Cassie Ventura has broken her silence nearly a week after a shocking 2016 surveillance video surfaced, allegedly depicting her then-boyfriend, Sean Diddy Combs, physically assaulting her. In a heartfelt Instagram post, the singer expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support she has received and shed light on the devastating impact of domestic violence.
“Thank you for all the love and support from my family, friends, strangers, and those I have yet to meet,” Cassie wrote. “The outpouring of love has created a safe space for my younger self to heal, but this is only the beginning,” she added. Cassie and Combs began their tumultuous relationship when she was just 19 years old, and he was 37.
Addressing the pervasive issue of domestic violence, Cassie admitted that her experience “broke” her down into a person she never imagined becoming. While acknowledging her progress, she emphasised that recovery is an ongoing journey. “Domestic Violence is THE issue,” she continued. “It broke me down to someone I never thought I would become. With a lot of hard work, I am better today, but I will always be recovering from my past,” the singer shared.
Cassie urged the public to believe victims when they come forward, acknowledging the courage it takes to speak up about traumatic experiences. “My only ask is that EVERYONE opens their heart to believing victims the first time,” she wrote.
The leaked footage, which surfaced online earlier this month, seemingly matches the description of an alleged assault at the InterContinental Hotel in Los Angeles detailed in Cassie’s lawsuit against the “I’ll Be Missing You” rapper. Cassie had accused Combs of rape and violent behaviour during their decade-long relationship.
As Cassie continues to heal and rebuild her life, her heartfelt message encourages a larger conversation about domestic violence, the importance of supporting survivors, and the power of speaking up against abuse.
This incident is the latest in a series of allegations against Sean Diddy Combs, as his treatment of women faces increasing scrutiny. Earlier this week, another sexual assault lawsuit was filed against the rapper, further adding to the mounting accusations.
Combs, 54, has addressed the disturbing surveillance footage from 2016 that appears to show him assaulting his then-girlfriend, Cassie. In a video message on Instagram, the rapper expressed remorse for his actions and acknowledged the severity of his behaviour.
“It’s challenging to confront the darkest moments in your life, but sometimes it’s necessary,” Diddy said. “I was in a bad place. I hit rock bottom. However, I make no excuses for my actions in that video, which are inexcusable. I take full responsibility.”
Reflecting on his past, the Bad Boy Records founder shared, “I was disgusted with myself then, and I’m still disgusted now. I knew I needed help, so I sought professional guidance and entered therapy and rehab. I pleaded for God’s mercy and grace. I am truly sorry, but I’m not asking for forgiveness. My focus is on becoming a better man each day.”
Sean Diddy Combs‘ apology came after his long-standing denials of the allegations, including those in Cassie’s lawsuit, which was settled a day after it was filed. The music mogul has consistently denied all allegations of sexual assault and trafficking in multiple lawsuits. Despite settling Cassie’s lawsuit, his attorney maintained that the decision “in no way undermines his flat-out denial of the claims”.
