Amid the growing unrest between India and Pakistan that commenced with the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, renowned singer-composer Adnan Sami recently made an explosive comment that some of his fans from the neighbouring country told him that he discarded his Pakistan citizenship “in good time”. He even claimed that they shared with him a desire to change their nationality, citing disillusionment with their army.

Sami wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Met some very sweet Pakistani boys while walking on the beautiful streets of Baku, Azerbaijan. They said, ‘Sir, you are very lucky… You left Pakistan in good time… We also want to change our citizenship… WE HATE OUR ARMY… They have destroyed our country!!’ I replied, ‘I knew this long ago!'” For the unversed, Adnan Sami was born in England and previously held both Pakistani and Canadian citizenship. He moved to India in 2001 and was granted citizenship in 2016.

Recently, Adnan Sami had also locked horns with former Pakistan minister Fawad Ahmed Hussain Chaudhry on social media for questioning his stay in India amid the central government’s crackdown on Pakistani nationals here. Following the Pahalgam terror attack, the government had announced the suspension of visa services to Pakistani nationals and directed states to identify people under 14 visa categories and ensure their prompt return to Pakistan.

“What about Adnan Sami?” Fawad asked on X while sharing a tweet regarding the Centre’s move. Adnan hit back, saying, “Who’s going to tell this illiterate idiot!!” Fawad further mocked his weight loss, noting, “Our very Own Lahori Adnan Sami aisay lag rahay hein jaisey Baloon se hawa nikal chuki hooo… get well soon (Our very own Lahori Adnan Sami looks like a deflated balloon, get well soon).” In response, Adnan wrote, “Even that you didn’t get right you dumb Ass…My roots are from Peshawar- Not Lahore!! To think that you were Minister of (Mis) Information and have no knowledge about any information!!!! Meri tho hawa nikal gaee- Tu abhi bhi Balloon hai! And you were Minister of Science?… Was that the Science of BULL SH*T?? Now I know what the ‘CH’ in your name stands for!!!! – Mohallay-Ke-Duplicate-Bhaand!!”
