Mirage trailer: Superstar Mohanlal on Friday unveiled the trailer of Jeethu Joseph’s suspense thriller Mirage, starring Asif Ali and Aparna Balamurali in the lead roles.

The one-minute thirty-eight-second trailer follows an online investigative reporter, played by Asif, as he joins forces with a woman determined to solve a missing-person case. Going by the promo, the Drishyam director seems set to deliver another edge-of-the-seat thriller.

Mirage was initially conceived as a Bollywood film, but director Jeethu Joseph had to abandon the plan after failing to find a suitable male lead. In a recent interview with Baradwaj Rangan, Jeethu confessed, “I couldn’t think of any Bollywood male star who would be willing to take up a role like this in a film that is built around a woman’s perspective.” The director also added why he chose his Kooman star Asif Ali for the role. “But I knew Asif Ali would accept the challenge as he is someone who likes to try different things, and he did agree at once. Hence, I am doing the film in Malayalam.”

Mirage, bankrolled by E4 Entertainment, also features Hannah Reji Koshy, Sampath Raj, and Deepak Parambol. Jeethu Joseph has retained most of his technical team from previous films, with Satheesh Kurup handling cinematography and Vishnu Shyam composing the music. Based on a story by Aparna R. Tarakad, the film’s screenplay is co-written by Jeethu and Sreenivasan Abrol.

Jeethu Joseph also has another film, Valathu Vashathe Kallan, starring Biju Menon and Joju George in the lead roles, which is gearing up for release. Meanwhile, the much-anticipated Drishyam 3 is set to begin shooting next month in Thodupuzha.
