Two months after a case was registered against him following a complaint by a woman who claimed he sexually assaulted her at a Dubai hotel last year, Malayalam actor Nivin Pauly has been given a clean chit by the investigating team due to insufficient evidence. In her complaint, the woman, hailing from Ernakulam district in Kerala, had levelled the allegations against six persons, including Nivin and a producer. She claimed that Nivin assaulted her after promising a role in a film. Based on her complaint, an FIR was registered, naming Nivin as the sixth accused.

The investigation revealed that Nivin was not present at the location at the specified time and date of the alleged incident. Consequently, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) who led the investigation submitted a report to the First Class Magistrate Court in Kothamangalam, Ernakulam, stating that Nivin’s name has been removed from the list of suspects. The investigation against the other accused persons, however, remains ongoing.

According to Mathrubhumi, in a complaint dated August 6, 2024, the woman claimed that Nivin and his PR team were harassing her and her family by spreading false information and attempting to discredit her by accusing her of a honey trap. After being booked in September, Nivin firmly denied the accusations, calling them “entirely untrue.” “I have come across a false news report accusing me of abusing a girl. Please know that this is entirely untrue. I’m determined to go to any extent to prove these allegations are baseless and will take all necessary steps to bring those responsible to light. Thank you for your concern. The rest will be handled legally,” he said in a post he shared on social media soon after.

The complaint had surfaced at a time when the entire state of Kerala had been rocked by the Justice Hema Committee report, which exposed widespread discrimination and exploitation faced by women in the Malayalam film industry. In its wake, several survivors spoke out, detailing workplace mistreatment and making allegations of sexual misconduct against prominent male figures. Among those named was former AMMA general secretary Siddique, filmmaker Ranjith, actor-legislator Mukesh, actor-director Balachandra Menon, actors Edavela Babu, Maniyanpilla Raju, Jayasurya and Baburaj, and director Sreekumar Menon.
