Thanks to the overwhelmingly positive responses, director Blessy’s survival drama Aadujeevitham (The Goat Life), starring Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead role, concluded its opening weekend in theatres with tremendous success. Meanwhile, Aadujeevitham has also emerged as the fastest Malayalam film to collect Rs 50 crore at the global box office.
After commencing its theatrical run on Thursday with an impressive domestic nett collection of Rs 7.6 crore, the film had witnessed a dip in the collection on Friday, minting Rs 6.25 crore. However, Aadujeevitham’s India nett collection witnessed a 24 per cent jump on Saturday and the movie eked out Rs 7.75 crore, before recording its highest single-day domestic nett of Rs 9.17 crore on Sunday, industry tracker Sacnilk reported. Presently, the survival drama’s total domestic nett stands at Rs 30.77 crore.
In Kerala, the film earned Rs 5.44 crore on its fourth day in theatres, as reported by local industry tracker What The Fuss, with 3,60,316 admissions across 1,524 shows, achieving an occupancy rate of 86 per cent collectively.
Meanwhile, the film’s producers announced on Sunday that Aadujeevitham’s worldwide gross has surpassed the Rs 50 crore mark, thus emerging as the fastest Malayalam film to enter the elite club. According to OTTPlay, this record was previously held by Prithviraj Sukumaran’s debut directorial project, Lucifer, starring Mohanlal in the lead role.
It may be mentioned here that Aadujeevitham has also been faring significantly better than director Chidambaram’s survival thriller Manjummel Boys, which recently claimed the title of the highest-grossing Malayalam film ever. In the initial four days of release, while Aadujeevitham recorded domestic nett collections of Rs 7.6 crore, Rs 6.25 crore, Rs 7.75 crore and Rs 8.5 crore respectively, Manjummel Boys, which also released on a Thursday, had earned only Rs 3.3 crore, Rs 3.25 crore, Rs 4.25 crore and Rs 4.7 crore on corresponding days.
With this, it appears that Aadujeevitham is poised to dethrone Manjummel Boys and emerge as the highest-grosser in Malayalam. However, considering the movie’s genre, this is indeed a herculean task. Nevertheless, it is certain that the survival drama will pass the crucial Monday test with flying colours, but it remains to be seen how much the film will be able to eke out.
In his review of the movie, The Indian Express’ Anandu Suresh noted, “Prithviraj Sukumaran delivers one of his career-best performances, elevating the Blessy film above its shortcomings. Despite a somewhat shaky start, he admirably rises to the challenge, portraying Najeeb with authenticity.”
