Shah Rukh Khan and Simu Liu, two different red carpets but two similar style statements. On Sunday night, Shah Rukh Khan rocked the red carpet at the Zee Cine Awards 2024, wearing an all-black ensemble, in Mumbai. Since then, the dapper-looking actor has been trending on social media while his sartorial choice won over the fashion police. Hours later, Barbie actor Simu Liu, who is a self-professed SRK fan, arrived at the Oscars 2024 red carpet wearing a similar black outfit at the Dolby Theatre, in Los Angeles. Not only did the fashion choices of the actors, living continents apart, bore a striking resemblance with each other — both were seen sporting side-buttoned blazers, ditched their shirts and ties and chose to add a brooch to accessorise their look — they also opted for black leather shoes.
Shah Rukh wore a a custom Manish Malhotra suit with a single-breasted black blazer and matching pants, sans the shirt. The star who picked up the best actor trophy at the award last night was styled by Shaleena Nathani. The unicorn embossed on the lapel and silver ear cuff added an edge to his look. Going against the Oscars norm which requires men to wear shirts, Simu, who starred in Barbie, opted for ‘man cleavage’ while sporting a jet-black jacket which had a silver brooch-esque attachment near his waist, which is winning the netizen’s love.
John Cena makes news at Oscars wearing nothing
When one talks of risque fashion, nobody would ever imagine John Cena following the trend. However, on Sunday, an ‘almost’ naked John, who appeared on stage with a barely there large envelope covering his private parts, took the audience by surprise, leaving them in splits. Moments after host Jimmy Kimmel jokingly hinted, “Can you imagine if a nude man ran across the stage today? Wouldn’t that be crazy?” John took the centre stage wearing ‘nothing,’ baring it all, leaving very little for the imagination. The wrestler-actor was there to present the Oscar for Best Costume Design for Poor Things . “It’s an elegant event. Honestly, you should feel ashamed right now for suggesting such a tasteless idea,” John chided Jimmy while complaining, “The male body is not a joke!” Jimmy later covered Cena as he announced Holly Waddington as the best costume design Oscar winner.
Emma Stone’s broken Oscar dress
John’s ‘naked’ appearance wasn’t the only surprise on the stage, Emma Stone, who took him the Best Actress award for her performance in Poor Things, suffered a wardrobe malfunction as she advanced towards the stage to collect her trophy. “My dress is broken,” the 35-year-old, who won the award for the second time, was head saying. She later spoke about her outfit being damaged — a zipper/seam broke on the back of her strapless gown — in her acceptance speech. Emma was wearing a custom Louis Vuitton mint peplum dress, which was an ode to her character Bella Baxter in Poor Things. Created with silk jacquard fabric and embellished with shells, her outfit was in sync with the ocean theme. “Don’t look at the back of my dress,” the Amazing Spider-Man actress urged as she completed her speech. Later, she told the press that her dress was sewn in. However, the actress jokingly blamed her La La Land co-star Ryan Gosling’s energetic performance, “I’m Just Ken” for which she joined in and did a bit of a dance move which may have caused the malfunction.
Robert Downey Jr helps fix Da’Vine Joy Randolph’s dress, Cillian Murphy helps Emma
Oppenheimer co-stars, Cillian Murphy (Best Actor) and Robert Downey Jr (Best Supporting Actor) didn’t just win the awards, but also the hearts of ladies. While Robert helped fix her Da’Vine Joy Randolph’s long floor-sweeping tulle cape, Cilian was snapped adjusting Emma’s outfit, which featured a long train, as they posed alongside RDJ and Da’Vine.
The red carpet of Oscars 2024 also became an occasion to make a political statement as several stars were spotted wearing red pins in support of a ceasefire in Gaza. Selma director Ava DuVernay, Mark Ruffalo, Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell were seen sporting pins in support of Artists4Ceasefire, an organisation fighting to end the ongoing Israel-Palestine war even as hundreds of protesters staged a protest against the violence in Palestine, outside the Dolby Theatre.
Vanessa Hudgens had a special surprise as she debuted her baby bump on the 96th Oscars red carpet, revealing that she expected her first child with husband Cole Tucker. Dressed in a black turtleneck gown and tones of Chopard diamonds, a radiant Vanessa co-hosted the red carpet-show alongside Julianne Hough.

Liza Koshy surely knows how to turn heads even with ‘oops moments’ at award shows. Liza walked the carpe in a red off-the-shoulder Marchesa gown and massive platform heels but she lost her balance on those heels. When she was moving down the red carpet posing for shutterbugs, she seemingly lost her footing and took a massive tumble, collapsing completely onto the red carpet. Everyone around her rushed to help her back up, however, she continued to pose even sitting down on the carpet.
Koshy definitely knows how to make a statement on the red carpet.
