Oscars 2020 highlights: Parasite creates history

Parasite is the first non-English film to win Best Picture. The film won four awards at the 92nd Academy Awards.

Parasite wins Best Picture. This is the first non-English film to win Best Picture. Jane Fonda presents the award for Best Picture. The nominees include Ford v Ferrari, The Irishman, Jojo Rabbit, Joker, Little Women, Marriage Story, 1917, Parasite and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Renée Zellweger wins the Oscar for Best Actress for Judy. Rami Malek presents the award. The actresses nominated in this category include Renée Zellweger (Judy), Charlize Theron (Bombshell), Scarlett Johansson (Marriage Story), Saoirse Ronan (Little Women) and Cynthia Erivo (Harriet).

This is the first Oscar win for Joaquin Phoenix. The actor has been previously nominated for The Master (2013), Walk the Line (2006) and Gladiator (2001).

Joaquin Phoenix wins the Oscar for Best Actor for his performance in Joker. Olivia Colman presents the award. The actors nominated in this category are Joaquin Phoenix (Joker), Leonardo DiCaprio (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood), Adam Driver (Marriage Story), Antonio Banderas (Pain and Glory) and Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes).

Billie Eilish takes the stage performs The Beatles song Yesterday. The Academy remembers Kobe Bryant, Doris Day, John Singleton, Kirk Douglas and all the others who passed away in the previous year.

Bong Joon-ho quotes Martin Scorsese as he wins the Best Director award. The crowd gives a standing ovation to Martin Scorsese. He also thanks Quentin Tarantino for recognising his work before people in the US knew about it.

Bong Joon-ho wins Best Director Oscar for Parasite. Spike Lee presents the award for Best Director. The nominees include - Martin Scorsese for The Irishman, Todd Phillips for Joker, Sam Mendes for 1917, Quentin Tarantino for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Bong Joon-ho for Parasite.

The Oscar goes to Elton John and Bernie Taupin for Rocketman's "(I'm Gonna) Love Me Again".

The nominees include - "I Can't Let You Throw Yourself Away" from Toy Story 4 – Music and Lyrics by Randy Newman, "(I'm Gonna) Love Me Again" from Rocketman – Music by Elton John; Lyrics by Bernie Taupin, "I'm Standing with You" from Breakthrough – Music and Lyrics by Diane Warren, "Into the Unknown" from Frozen II – Music and Lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez and "Stand Up" from Harriet – Music and Lyrics by Joshuah Brian Campbell and Cynthia Erivo.

Hildur Guðnadóttir wins the Oscar for Joker. Gal Gadot, Brie Larson and Sigourney Weaver take the stage to announce the award. The nominees include - Joker, Little Women, Marriage Story, 1917 and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Elton John takes the stage as he performs "(I'm Gonna) Love Me Again" from Rocketman. The song has been nominated in the Best Original Song category.

Parasite wins Best International Feature Film. This is the first South Korean film to win the honour. Penelope Cruz presented the award as director Bong Joon-ho accepted. The nominees included - Corpus Christi (Poland), Honeyland (North Macedonia), Les Misérables (France), Pain and Glory (Spain) and Parasite (South Korea).

Kazu Hiro, Anne Morgan, and Vivian Baker win Best Makeup and Hairstyling for Bombshell. Ray Romano and Sandra Oh take the stage to present the award. The nominees included - Bombshell, Joker, Judy, 1917 and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.

Rebel Wilson and James Corden take the stage in their Cats costumes as they present the award for Best Visual Effects. They also took a dig at the visual effects of Cats.

Guillaume Rocheron, Greg Butler, and Dominic Tuohy win the award for their work on 1917. The nominees include - Avengers: Endgame, The Irishman, The Lion King, 1917 and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Former President Barack Obama shared on Twitter, "Congrats to Julia and Steven, the filmmakers behind American Factory, for telling such a complex, moving story about the very human consequences of wrenching economic change. Glad to see two talented and downright good people take home the Oscar for Higher Ground’s first release."

Cynthia Erivo takes the stage for her performance. She has also been nominated in the Best Actress category for her performance in Harriet.

Andrew Buckland and Michael McCusker win Best Film Editing Oscar for Ford v Ferrari. The nominees included Ford v Ferrari, The Irishman, Jojo Rabbit, Joker and Parasite.

Roger Deakins wins the Best Cinematography Oscar for 1917. Will Ferrell and Julia Louis-Dreyfus presented the award. The nominees included The Irishman, Joker, The Lighthouse, 1917 and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Mark Taylor and Stuart Wilson win the Best Sound Mixing Oscar for 1917. The nominees included Ad Astra, Ford v Ferrari, Joker, 1917 and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Donald Sylvester wins the Oscar for Best Sound Editing for Ford v Ferrari. Oscar Isaac and Salma Hayek presented the award. The nominees included Ford v Ferrari, Joker, 1917, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Anthony Ramos welcomed Lin-Manuel Miranda on the Oscar stage. Lin-Manuel Miranda introduced a special video that acknowledged many of the previous Oscar winners of Best Original Song. Eminem performed on the Oscar stage.

Noah Baumbach and Greta Gerwing teared up as Laura Dern thanked them after winning the Best Supporting Actress Oscar.

Laura Dern wins Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Marriage Story. Mahershala Ali presented the award. The actresses nominated in this category included Laura Dern (Marriage Story), Margot Robbie (Bombshell), Florence Pugh (Little Women), Kathy Bates (Richard Jewell) and Scarlett Johansson (Jojo Rabbit).

Carol Dysinger and Elena Andreicheva win the Oscar for Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone (If You're a Girl). The nominees included In the Absence, Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone (If You're a Girl), Life Overtakes Me, St. Louis Superman, Walk Run Cha-Cha.

Steven Bognar, Julia Reichert and Jeff Reichert win Best Documentary Feature Oscar for American Factory. Mark Ruffalo presented the award. The nominees included American Factory, The Cave, The Edge of Democracy, For Sama and Honeyland.

Chrissy Metz takes the Oscar stage for a performance. Metz played a significant role in the 2019 film Breakthrough. The actor plays a lead role in the TV show This is Us where her character is also a singer.

Jacqueline Durran wins the Oscar for Little Women. Best Costume Design nominees included The Irishman, Jojo Rabbit, Joker, Little Women and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Maya Rudolph and Kristen Wiig presented the award.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood wins the Oscar for Best Production Design. Barbara Ling and Nancy Haigh take the award. Maya Rudolph and Kristen Wiig presented the award. The nominees included The Irishman, Jojo Rabbit, 1917, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Parasite.

The Neighbors' Window wins Best Live Action Short Film at Oscars 2020. The nominees included Brotherhood, Nefta Football Club, The Neighbors' Window, Saria and A Sister.

Taika Waititi wins the award for Jojo Rabbit. Timothée Chalamet and Natalie Portman presented the award for Best Adapted Screenplay. The nominees included The Irishman (Steven Zaillian, based on the book I Heard You Paint Houses by Charles Brandt), Jojo Rabbit (Taika Waititi, based on the novel Caging Skies by Christine Leunens), Joker (Todd Phillips and Scott Silver, based on characters created by Bill Finger, Bob Kane, and Jerry Robinson), Little Women (Greta Gerwig, based on the novel by Louisa May Alcott), The Two Popes (Anthony McCarten, based on his play The Pope).

Bong Joon-ho and Han Jin-won win Best Original Screenplay for Parasite. Keanu Reeves and Diane Keaton present the award for Best Original Screenplay. The nominations were Knives Out (Rian Johnson), Marriage Story (Noah Baumbach), 1917 (Sam Mendes and Krysty Wilson-Cairns), Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (Quentin Tarantino) and Parasite (Bong Joon-ho and Han Jin-won).

In 2012, Matthew A Cherry tweeted, "I'm gonna be nominated for an Oscar one day. Already claiming it." He just won an Oscar for Hair Love.

Josh Gad takes the stage and welcomes Idina Menzel for a performance.

Toy Story 4 wins the Oscar. Mindy Kaling presents the Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film. The nominees were How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, I Lost My Body, Klaus, Toy Story 4, and Missing Link.

Brad Pitt thanked Quentin Tarantino and Leonardo DiCaprio in his speech. He spoke about the stunt co-ordinators who work at the movies since he played a stuntman in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Brad Pitt wins the Best Supporting Actor Oscar. Regina King presented the award. The actors nominated in this category included Brad Pitt (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood), Tom Hanks (A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood), Anthony Hopkins (The Two Popes), Al Pacino (The Irishman) and Joe Pesci (The Irishman).

Steve Martin and Chris Rock take the stage. They discuss the absence of a host and take a few jibes at the Academy. They also discuss the absence of female directors in the nomination list.

The opening number is a tribute to all the great movies of 2020. Janelle Monáe is presenting a performance that honours all the nominees. In the absence of a host, this serves as the opening of the ceremony.
