Kim Kardashian slams Donald Trump’s immigration policies

Kim, who has been a vocal critic of Trump’s ongoing immigration crackdown in the United States, said that while the government frames it as targeting criminals, in reality, it often ends up hurting hardworking people who have helped build the country. The 44-year-old was speaking at a roundtable interview with journalists before receiving the award from a man named Chris Young. This is the same person whom Kim helped free from a life sentence. Young had been arrested for a low-level drug offence at age of 22 and sentenced to life without parole. Kim then took the matter to the White House to ask for his clemency. Trump commuted Young’s sentence in 2021, after he had already served 11 years.

“In the news, you hear, ‘Oh, it’s about people who have committed these crimes and they’re trying to help out our country.’ But then you hear about all of the people who have worked so hard to build our country, and so many people who are such a part of our country getting affected,” she said according to Variety. “People I know. People my friends know.” 

The reality star has been fighting for criminal justice reform for years. More recently, she got involved in the Menendez brothers’ case. The brothers were recently denied parole, after having been convicted of murdering their parents. Kim even penned an op-ed for the brothers. Earlier, she fought for Alice Johnson’s pardon in 2020. In May 2025, Kim finished her four-year Law Office Study Program. By July, she sat for the California bar exam, a two-day test with five one-hour essays, a 90-minute performance section, and 200 multiple-choice questions. TMZ reported on August 29 that she’s now waiting for results.

Earlier, Kim was asked if she would return to the White House to push for more prison reform, she said she “would love to” and would go to any administration to fight for people she believes in. Meanwhile, Young also spoke to the reporters, expressing his gratitude to Kardashian. Now 37, he’s about to graduate from SMU and has been planning to release his own memoir.  Quoting Tupac, he said, “We all came from a woman, got our name from a woman, got our game from a woman. We need to respect our women, and especially someone like Kim Kardashian.” He praised her compassion and fighting spirit, saying she didn’t have to help prisoners given all the success she has, which makes absolutely no sense why anyone would land in messy politics and conflicts, but she chose to do it anyway, adding, “Compassion is different from empathy, because compassion has action.”

While kicking off the ceremony, Von Furstenberg told the audience that the awards are meant to honour women who show courage, strength, and leadership, saying, “In this moment of chaos and darkness in the world, it is more important than ever to focus on finding the light.” Alongside Kim Kardashian, the night also honoured Christy Turlington Burns for her foundation Every Mother Counts, Sudanese activist Hanin Ahmed, Indigenous rights defender Fany Kuiru Castro, and Giulia Minoli, who is the head of the domestic violence awareness group Una Nessuna Centomila.
