Filmmaker and DC Universe co-chair James Gunn has announced that the pre-production on his upcoming directorial with DC, Superman Legacy, which he has also written, has begun in full swing.
Gunn took to Twitter to share the update and wrote, “I’m honored to be a part of the legacy. And what better day than #SupermanAnniversary Day to dive fully into early pre-production on #SupermanLegacy? Costumes, production design, and more now up and running.”
Fans were quick to react to the latest development as one wrote, “Godspeed!” Another mentioned, “Greatest superhero of all time let’s goooooo.” A fan commented, “Must feel great! Wish I could be a part of something like that.”
Superman Legacy is said to mark the beginning of the new phase of DC films after James Gunn and Peter Safran took over the reins. The film is said to be a reboot of a Man of Steel draft that Gunn had formerly written. The filmmaker had also revealed earlier that he had not given his nod to be a part of a Superman project when he was approached for it in the past as he “didn’t have a way in that felt unique and fun and emotional that gave Superman the dignity he deserved.”
The last Superman film was Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. Reports suggest that Gunn’s version of the iconic character will be more traditional than what we have seen in the past.
For now, James Gunn is awaiting the release of his last project with Marvel Studios — Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 — which hits cinemas on May 5 worldwide.
