Iconic screenwriting duo Salim-Javed had a historic collaboration, but so far, their children haven’t yet worked together in movies. Zoya Akhtar, filmmaker daughter of Javed Akhtar, says a collaboration with superstar Salman Khan would be “delicious” but can only happen the day the duo find the right subject which appeals to both.
Zoya is known for making acclaimed dramas like Luck by Chance, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Gully Boy while Salman Khan, son of Salim Khan, is one of the biggest stars of the country with massy blockbusters to his credit.
“It would be amazing!” Zoya Akhtar told Bollywood Hungama about the idea of working with Salman in a film. “He is a megastar who has got a crazy persona and a huge fanbase. I have to obviously find a subject that works for him and his fans and me. The minute we find a subject, it would be delicious, it would be a lot of fun.”
Zoya has co-produced the upcoming Amazon Prime Video documentary Angry Young Men, which sheds light on the life and career of Salim-Javed, who wrote 24 films together– 22 of which were blockbusters.
Zoya Akhtar recalled meeting Salman Khan to discuss the docu-series at his Galaxy apartment with actor filmmaker brother Farhan Akhtar. “It was fun, we were in his lawn and had some tea, all his nephews were around. It was a nice feeling to be back at Galaxy, because we grew up there and played in that garden.
“So, it was lovely to be there. We all chatted about everything under the sun. He was super open to it. He is older than us, so he had seen more of their glory days together than we had. He remembers much more.”
During the trailer launch of Angry Young Men, Salim-Javed had said that they might collaborate again for a new film, which had surprised their fans. Zoya said the development was strictly between the duo and added, “I don’t know what they were cooking between them, but I hope I get to direct it! Because there are many contenders in the family, so I hope I get it!”
