Shah Rukh Khan was at his witty best at the launch event of his wife Gauri’s coffee table book, My Life in Design. He gave a speech at the outset of the event, during which he spoke highly of Gauri’s creativity, and the support that she showed for him in his journey to stardom. He also participated in a lively chat with the moderator, and gave plenty of glimpses of the charm that has made generations of fans admire him.
“I’m better-looking than you, bro,” Shah Rukh said, when an acquaintance of his in the crowd said that Gauri is more talented than him. When the person said that they were talking only about talent, Shah Rukh shot back, “Looks do everything. Who needs talent when you look like me.”
During his opening remarks, Shah Rukh spoke warmly of Gauri, and highlighted her achievements. “She’s designing houses and restaurants and hotels. Except my rooms in my house, she’s designing everything around the world. But still, I’m a forgiving person, magnanimous by heart,” he joked. After making his opening remarks, Shah Rukh took a seat next to Gauri, and jumped into the conversation that she was having with the moderator. “Is it okay if I talk in between?” he asked. “If it’s her show then I can just sit and look pretty,” he said, as the crowd laughed.
Shah Rukh bounced back after professional and personal setbacks this year, with the blockbuster hit Pathaan. Directed by Siddharth Anand, the action-spy film grossed more than Rs 1000 crore worldwide, becoming the biggest hit of Shah Rukh’s career. He hadn’t starred in a film since 2018’s Zero, and experienced difficulties during the pandemic when his older son, Aryan, was arrested and jailed in a drugs-related case. But his comeback was widely celebrated, and he’s set to star in two more films this year — Jawan and Dunki.
