Actor Vikrant Massey, who will soon be seen in The Sabarmati Report, recently opened up about the many different religions that are practiced in his house. Vikrant shared that he grew up in a secular household because of his Christian father and Sikh mother, and his brother, who converted to Islam. He also spoke about his wife, who is a Hindu, and shared that he has a temple in his house.
Talking to Sushant Sinha on his YouTube channel, Vikrant said, “Our family celebrates everything very proudly. My parents live with me and my wife. My wife is a Rajput Thakur. If you look at it from the point of view of religion, we believe in everything. We go and celebrate Eid at our friends’ houses, we celebrate Christmas with dad. Now Gurupurab is coming up so we will celebrate that as well because I believe this is real India.”
He then added that he has always been taught that “Hindu Muslim Sikh Isaayi, sabhi bhai bhai and that value system exists in my house.” He said that his extended family is also religiously diverse. “Even in my extended family, my maasi, who is a Sikh, is married to a Muslim man. My cousin is married to a Gujarati man. I have married a Rajput Thakur, so ours is a secular family,” he said.
Vikrant then mentioned that they conducted a naamkaran ceremony for their son Vardaan. “My son’s name is Vardaan. We had a naamkaran ceremony for him. We go to a temple. Our house has a temple so there is no one particular religion that is followed,” he said.
Vikrant had previously shared that his brother converted to Islam when he was 17. In a chat with Unfiltered by Samdish, he said, “My brother’s name is Moeen, I am called Vikrant. You’d wonder why the name Moeen? He converted to Islam, my family let him change his religion. They said, ‘Beta, if you find satisfaction this, then go ahead.’ He converted at the age of 17, it is a big step. My mother is Sikhni, my father is church-going Christian, he goes to church twice a week. From a young age, I have seen a lot of arguments related to religion and spirituality.”
