Katrina Kaif googled Vijay Sethupathi when Sriram Raghavan informed her that he’ll star opposite her in Merry Christmas: ‘I didn’t make this initial connection…’

Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi are basking in glory as their Merry Christmas, directed by National Award filmmaker Sriram Raghavan, is receiving positive reviews from critics and audiences alike. However, Katrina recently revealed that when the director first informed her that he may cast Vijay opposite her, she didn’t remember who he was and had to google him.

Talking to Brut, Katrina said, “I had seen a film called 96, which I loved and stars Vijay and Trisha. But somehow, I didn’t make the connection when sir told me, ‘this is the person who I think I am going to cast in this role — Vijay Sethupathi’. I didn’t make this initial connection that this is this actor. So the first thing I did was that I went on Google to make sure like refresh my memory. And there was this picture of him with such a big white beard, there are a lot of these pictures of him on the internet. White beard and white hair. So I was like ‘wow that’s interesting.’ I thought that looked really really good. I actually kind of liked that look to be honest.”

She then asked Vijay, the white hair and beard look was for which film and Vijay said, “It’s my real look,” to which Katrina responded by saying, “maybe, he keeps saying that but I haven’t seen that yet.”

Vijay, on being asked how he reacted when he was informed that he’d be sharing the screen with Katrina, he confessed that he was first shocked and then doubted how he and Katrina would look together on the screen.

He said, “I was shocked because everybody had that question. When I first told them that I am doing a Sriram Raghavan sir’s film, they said, “okay, very good, superb!” And (then I said) I am doing it with Katrina Kaif, so they said, ‘Is yours a guest role? Is it a heroine centric film?’. Everybody knows Katrina. It was a shock for me also. Like how is it going to be in the film, everybody’s asking, ‘how is this pair on screen?’. The same way I also have that fear and the doubt.”

Katrina and Vijay’s Merry Christmas released in cinemas on January 12.
