Actor Vidya Balan promoted her upcoming whodunit Neeyat in Mumbai on Wednesday. Here, the actor spoke about returning to the big screen after a gap of four years. She was last seen in Jagan Shakti’s Mission Mangal with Akshay Kumar and Taapsee Pannu, among others.

At the press conference, Vidya was asked if she is nervous as she is returning to the big screen after a long gap and if the pressure of the film’s box-office numbers bogs her down. Confessing that she is a “little bit” nervous, Vidya said, “I think I always feel excited and nervous and I can’t tell the difference at all, it feels all the same a few days before release. I like the fact that people have expectations from this film and from me, I am very grateful for that. I am very hopeful that everyone will enjoy it.”

“However, there is a lot of excitement because my last outing in theatres was Mission Mangal which did very well and fingers crossed that people will come to the theatres and watch Neeyat and love it and maybe watch it again, because you’ll need two… The good thing about promotions is that you don’t get the time to feel the pressure. We get so tired by the end of the day and you don’t get the time to process what you’re feeling. I am looking forward to how everyone receives the film,” Vidya added.

Vidya also spoke about collaborating with filmmaker Anu Menon for the second time after their 2021 OTT release Shakuntala Devi. She also revealed that she chose Neeyat as she believes she’ll enjoy it as member of audience.

She said, “l am very impatient and get easily bored as an audience. So when I read something primarily, I ask myself would I like to watch this? Then of course I figure whether this character calls out to me.”

While talking about collaborating with Anu Menon for the second time, Vidya said, “Shakuntala Devi, which I had done with Anu Menon (director of Neeyat), and then Sherni and Jalsa released on Amazon Prime. So, that wasn’t in my hand. The pandemic was there, so it was a very good thing that despite the pandemic, we got to share our work with you all. Now, we are getting the opportunity to again release our films in theaters, and the kind of film Neeyat is that can be enjoyed on the big screen. When I saw the trailer, I also felt that it would be terrific to watch it on the big screen.”

Along with Vidya Balan, Neeyat stars an ensemble cast including Dipannita Sharma, Shahana Goswami, Amrita Puri, Rahul Bose, Neeraj Kabi, Ram Kapoor, Shashank Arora and Danish Rizwi. The murder mystery will be released in theatres on July 7.
