Actor Salman Khan has been slapped with a Rs 250-crore defamation suit by Vijay Galani, producer of his film Veer. Galani had fought a long legal battle against Salman Khan over payment for the film. The producer claims he paid the actor Rs 10 crore as signing amount and when drawing up the contract, offered Rs 15 crore from ‘overflow’ (profit) if the film did well.

Three months after the film released — and failed at the box-office — Khan sent Galani a letter. “He claimed that he didn’t agree with the clause and that I owe him Rs 15 crore. But the film had flopped, so the clause wasn’t valid,” explained Galani. (Read: Salman Khan in Sultan, set to clash with SRK’s Raees on Eid 2016

Galani claims the Federation of Western India Film Employees (FWICE) banned him under pressure from the superstar.

The producer moved court in 2011. “All this was covered in media and I was made to look bad,” he said.

Khan lost the legal battle earlier this year. “After consulting my legal team, I filed the defamation case for mental agony and taint caused to my reputation,” Galani said.

Khan’s spokesperson was unavailable for comment.
