Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar has given Hindi films a reason to take a breath of relief as it posted a good total in its first weekend. The Ranbir Kapoor-Shraddha Kapoor romantic comedy released on Holi and posted impressive figures over the extended weekend.

The Luv Ranjan film has earned Rs 17.50 crore nett in India on Sunday, the fifth day of its release, as reported by industry tracker Saclink. The film earned Rs 15.73 crore on Wednesday, Rs 10.34 crore on Thursday, Rs 10.52 crore on Friday, and Rs 16.57 crore on Saturday. This is the second hit for Ranbir Kapoor in the last two years. He earlier delivered a success with Brahmastra, which brought cheer to an otherwise underwhelming 2022 at the box office.

The year 2023 hasn’t been much different. After the blockbuster Pathaan, the highest-earning Hindi film ever, Hindi cinema has seen films such as Akshay Kumar-starrer Selfiee and Kartik Aaryan’s Shehzada failing to work at ticket windows.

The Indian Express’ film critic Shubhra Gupta wrote in her review, “The writers of Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar clearly didn’t get the memo on brevity being the soul of wit: the film drags on for two hours before it comes to the last twenty minutes, which is when the pace picks up.”
