Kangana Ranaut’s latest film Tejas arrived in the theatres on Friday but failed to fly at the box office. It barely saw any footfall in cinema halls on the day of its release. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, Tejas approximately earned Rs 1 crore on Friday. Until the afternoon shows, the film’s occupancy was noted at 5.57% in the Hindi-speaking market.
Tejas has Kangana in the role of an Air Force Pilot. Written and directed by Sarvesh Mewara, the film has Kangana’s character trying to rescue an Indian spy held captive in Pakistan, all while confronting and neutralising terrorists hidden in a remote part of Pakistan. While the trailer of the film received a decent response, it couldn’t sell many tickets at the box office. As per a Times Now report, the film managed to sell only 3,000 tickets across PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis.
If Tejas fails to pick up pace over the weekend, it would be the fifth flop in a row for Kangana. Her last theatrical release, Dhaakad (2022) could only earn Rs 2.58 crore, and Thalaivii (2021) also flopped with an earning of Rs 1.46 crore. Similarly, the audience rejected her films Panga (2020) and Judgementall Hai Kya (2019). She only managed to bring people to cinema halls with her historical drama, Manikarnika (2019). She also delivered Chandramukhi 2 at the theatres, which earned about Rs 40 crore.
Tejas has not received a good response from the film critics as well. The Indian Express’ Shubhra Gupta gave the film a 1.5 stars rating. She mentioned in her review, “The film is so intent upon keeping Kangana Ranaut centre-stage that everyone else ends up as satellites.”
