Suresh Oberoi defends PM Narendra Modi film, says son Vivek Oberoi worked hard for biopic: ‘It was badly edited’

In an interview with Lehren Retro, Suresh Oberoi said several people “disallowed” many scenes in the film, which led to the film’s narrative getting affected and resulted in it being a disjointed product.

“Vivek did very well, I liked him a lot in the film. A lot of places in the film I thought he was PM Modi himself. He worked very hard for the film. Whoever was asked, would say they have seen the film, would praise how it is made, its performances but it wasn’t being reflected in terms of collections.”

When it was mentioned that the film simply wasn’t engrossing enough, Suresh pointed that out to its bad editing, as the makers were eventually left with no choice but to add or remove “chunks” from the movie.

“It was badly edited because there were a lot of people who disallowed so many scenes. Maybe if they would have called it a biopic and changed the title, it would have worked. We had to go and show every time to certain people. If you say, ‘we can’t do this or that, then how will the scenes merge? Obviously, you won’t like the film. ‘Remove this chunk, add that chunk, remove this, add that.'” he noted,

PM Narendra Modi was Vivek’s last big screen outing, before he transitioned to streaming platforms. While the film was yet another box-office disappointment for Vivek, the veteran actor said his son’s career has been good.

“Vivek’s career was good. It went up, then down. Now he is back on (OTT) platform and is doing very well. He always wanted to do business and acting. He runs a lot of businesses, he is passionate about it,” he added.

Opening up on how Vivek got a role in the 2002 film Company, Suresh Oberoi narrated, “He was making Company. He asked me if I had some work of Vivek to show him. I said, ‘Yes, I have’. ” The two went to Suresh’s home and there the filmmaker started shouting after watching Vivek’s video. He said, “Give me Rs 10”. When the actor gave it to him, Varma gave it to Vivek and said, ‘You are doing my film’.
