In numerous interviews, the Deol brothers, Sunny and Bobby Deol, have recounted how they feared father Dharmendra as children. During their recent appearance on The Great Indian Kapil Show, they were asked about whether they are stricter parents than their father. While Sunny acknowledged being a strict father, he also spoke about his upbringing in a joint family, where elders would frequently resort to physical discipline.
In a BTS clip shared by Kapil Sharma, the comedian questioned the Deol brothers about their parenting styles. Bobby responded, “I think bhaiya is a stricter parent than I am.” Sharing his perspective, Sunny said, “I don’t think it is like that. Papa was strict, we are also strict but Papa used to be so busy in shooting that I rarely saw him as a kid. Since we lived in a joint family with uncles and aunties, we used to interact with them more. Koe aisa nahi hai jisne merepe hath na saaf karho (There is no one in the family who hasn’t beaten me up in the family) (laughs).”
He added, “I am the result of all that.” Bobby jokingly added, “That’s why he can fight 100-200 people because he has taken so much beating as a kid.”
During the show, Sunny also shared anecdotes about how his mother, Prakash Kaur, would beat him if he got injured while playing. He said, “I used to get hurt and my mom would still beat me up with chappal and I would be bleeding.”
On the professional front, Sunny Deol’s last appearance was in the blockbuster Gadar 2. He is slated to star in Rajkumar Santoshi’s Lahore, 1947, produced by Aamir Khan Productions.
