Actor Sunny Deol says citizens across India and Pakistan want only love and peace for each other, but it is the political game in between which gives birth to “hatred.” The actor was speaking at the trailer launch of his latest film,Gadar 2, which features him going to Pakistan in the middle of a ‘Crush India movement’ to bring back his son.
While the trailer of the Anil Sharma film was jingoistic–the way Gadar’s brand of cinema has come to be known over the years–off screen Deol said citizens of both the countries don’t want to “fight.”

“It is all about humanity. There shouldn’t be any fights. There is equal love on both sides. It is the political game that gives birth to hatred. You will see the same in this film as well. Janta nahi chahti ki hum ek dusre ke saath jhagde ya lade, aakhir hai toh sab isi mitti se (people don’t want us to fight with each other, because after all we are from the same land).” The actor is an MP from Gurdaspur.
Released in 2001, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha followed the story of Tara Singh (Deol), a Sikh, who falls in love with a Pakistani Muslim girl, Sakina, played by Ameesha Patel. The duo reprises their roles in the film’s sequel.
At the launch, Deol said the audience’s love made Gadar one of the biggest hits of all time and hopes they shower the same love on the film’s sequel, which will release on August 11.
“Of course, there was a fear, that should we touch Gadar again. But when Sharma ji narrated me the story… I hope people like this film, I am hopeful the audience will love it, considering how excited everyone is. I hope it touches your hearts, fills you with josh (excitement) for your family, for your country, because there is no power bigger than love.”
Gadar 2 will have a box office face-off with Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2. In 2001, Gadar had clashed with Aamir Khan’s Lagaan. While the sports drama became a globally acclaimed hit, Gadar turned out to be one of the biggest blockbusters of Hindi cinema.
