The third edition of SCREEN Live in Mumbai brought Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol together for an engaging discussion about cinema. During the event, Sunny shared his thoughts on how the Hindi film industry has changed over the years. He attributed the decline in creativity to the entry of corporate entities into the industry but also acknowledged that adapting to change is inevitable in today’s world.

Speaking at the event, Sunny said, “The whole country has changed. The businesses have changed. Now we have big contracts but still if a person has to cheat, he will cheat. The world has become like that. Somehow when it becomes commercial-commercial and corporates come in, whoever sits on the chair, they misuse the power and that’s the key reason I would say.”

He added, “When corporates came, they weren’t creative people, they didn’t knew anything about cinema so things went the way they did. So the whole taste started changing, the whole cinema started changing. It’s not that it wasn’t successful, it has been successful also but somehow the deep rooted cinema that we talk about and we watch, even the songs that we listen to right now are the songs of earlier days. Aaj ke gaane nahi yaad rehte (You don’t remember today’s songs). Somehow it’s changing all over the world so you can’t blame anything. It’s the way the world is moving and you have to move along with it.”

Sunny Deol’s career saw a resurgence last year, thanks to the monumental success of Gadar 2. While he had been appearing in films like Yamla Pagla Deewana: Phir Se, Mohalla Assi, Bhaiaji Superhit, and Chup, none of these films achieved the box office success of Gadar 2. The movie, a sequel to his 2001 blockbuster Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, marked a major comeback for Sunny as it shattered box office records and reaffirmed his star power.

Sunny and Bobby Deol took part in the third edition of SCREEN Live.

The success of Gadar 2 has paved the way for a flurry of new projects for Sunny Deol, including Rajkumar Santoshi’s Lahore 1947, Jaat, and Border 2. At the SCREEN Live event, Sunny also made an exclusive revelation that he will star in Nitesh Tiwari’s highly anticipated Ramayana.
