Director Amar Kaushik’s Stree 2 is unstoppable at the box office. Starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, the horror comedy made around Rs 4.25 crore on its 23rd day of release, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. The film’s nett domestic total now stands at Rs 526 crore. According to the makers, the film’s gross box office collection in India stands at Rs 621 crore after three weeks.
A dip in its earnings was expected, as the film has been running in theatres for three weeks already. However, with Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency being delayed at the last minute, Stree 2 will have a free run in theatres until Kareena Kapoor’s The Buckingham Murders debuts in theatres on September 13. Stree 2 has had a mostly uncontested run, despite having debuted alongside the Akshay Kumar-starrer Khel Khel Mein and John Abraham’s Vedaa.
The film witnessed an overall occupancy of 13.35 percent on Friday, with most people catching the night shows. In Mumbai, the occupancy was 12.25 percent from 787 shows. In Delhi and NCR, the occupancy was 12.75 percent from 1105 shows. Both the metros have slashed the number of shows for Stree 2 as it entered its fourth week in cinemas.
According to Bollywood Hungama, the film grossed Rs 621.52 crore in India and Rs 121.71 crore internationally, for a total worldwide gross of Rs 743.23 crore. The horror comedy film, backed by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films, has maintained rock solid momentum at the box office. In fact, it recorded the biggest third week collections for a Hindi film so far, beating the third week business of Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan and Prabhas’ Baahubali 2: The Conclusion.
Stree 2 has become the second-fastest Hindi film to enter the Rs 500 crore club, after Jawan, which achieved the same feat in 18 days. The Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao-starrer is now looking at becoming the biggest Hindi film of all time by beating the lifetime run of Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2, Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, and SRK’s Pathaan and Jawan.
