Sonu said that the doesn’t consume alcohol and meat, and admitted that he had no idea about special diets when he first started working out. He also expressed pride in achieving a buff physique as a vegetarian, and without the aid of supplements and steroids. Sonu said in an interview that he used to consume an entire brick of Amul butter every day when he was younger, and shared that he isn’t very picky about food now.

Chatting with Shubhankar Mishra on YouTube, Sonu was asked about his physique, and the common belief that in order to achieve such a body, one needs to use supplements and steroids. He rejected the assumption, and said, “I’m a vegetarian. I don’t drink. I’ve never tasted non-veg. Also, I’ve inherited my parents’ Punjabi DNA. My dad was very strong. I’m the only one in my family who has never touched alcohol and non-veg. I don’t party either.”

Asked if he has ever taken supplements, Sonu said, “When I was a student, I had no idea what proteins and carbs were. I used to eat an entire loaf of bread and a full brick of Amul butter every night. And I would drink milk. I’d tear off the corner of the milk packet and drink it all up. I would eat egg whites… To this day, I go to hotels sometimes and the chefs offer to prepare special meals for me, but I ask them to give me a salad and egg whites. I can survive on daal and rice my entire life.”

Sonu said that he has taken protein powder, but that’s the extent of his supplement intake. He also said that he is a very disciplined man, and hasn’t missed a single day at the gym ever since he started. “I work out 365 days of the week,” he said. In an earlier interview with Jist, he said that he hasn’t eaten chapatis in years. “Lately, I have stopped eating chapatis. In the afternoon, I eat a small bowl of dal and rice. For breakfast, I eat egg-white omelette, salad, avocado, sauteed vegetables or papaya. But yes, I eat healthy, I don’t cheat on my diet. I eat makki ki roti sometimes, but only once in a while. It is important to be consistent,” he said.
