Shahid Kapoor says he was living a ‘slightly schizophrenic reality’ when he met Mira Rajput: ‘I had two very different sides of me’

Shahid Kapoor said that he was quite lonely in his early 30s and was keen to meet someone he could start a life with. And that's when he met Mira Rajput.

Shahid Kapoor got married to Mira Rajput when she was only 20 and Shahid was already a hugely popular movie star. The actor was in his 30s at the time, and by his own admission, he felt “lonely” and was keen on finding a companion with whom he could share his life. In a recent chat, Shahid said that when he was trying to find a partner, he believed that he was living a “slightly schizophrenic reality” where one side of his life was all about spirituality and meditation, and the other side was all about the glamour of the film industry.

“My biggest fear was I live a slightly schizophrenic reality because one side is of me is all spiritual, no alcohol, vegetarian, meditation and all these kinds of things. And one side of me is actor, glamour, hero. So, I had two very different sides of me,” he told Humans of Bombay. The Farzi actor said that he assumed he’d find someone who would understand either of his two personalities, but wondered, “how would someone understand both sides?” He shared, “I was just open to meeting somebody. I didn’t care how I met them. And then me and Mira met.”

In the same interview, Shahid said that he was so lonely at the time, he wouldn’t have anybody to share his successes with. He’d return home with awards, and would think, “What is this even? What is the point of all this?” Shahid said that he had been successful for a few years by that point, and was craving for an “immediate family.”

He said, “I realised you need to share your life with somebody. I was single and happy, life was great, and I was self sustained, I was living on my own. I had been earning for a long time. I was independent. I was a man. Nobody would ask me questions beyond a point. My parents were also like now you are grown up. I was lonely so I wanted to have an immediate family.”

Shahid and Mira got married in 2015. They have two children – daughter Misha and son Zain.
