Actor Shah Rukh Khan made his first public appearance following the release of his new film, Dunki, at producer and real estate developer Anand Pandit’s 60th birthday party on Thursday evening. The bash was attended by high-profile film industry personalities such as Salman Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan as well. At the party, Shah Rukh gave a speech in honour of Pandit, and called the producer his ‘spiritual guru’.
In a video from the party, Shah Rukh can be seen on the stage, standing next to Pandit and singer Sonu Nigam. In his speech, he said that he wakes up at midnight like an ‘ullu (owl)’ and goes on drives around Juhu with Pandit. He joked that Pandit owns so much real estate in the neighbourhood that it’s easier for him to point out the buildings he doesn’t own as opposed to the ones that he does.
“He is also my spiritual guru,” Shah Rukh said, adding, “He understands vastu, so when one of my films doesn’t do well, I call him over to change things up in my house. I say, ‘Sir, meri pichli waali picture chali nahi, kuch kar do.’ And he suggests moving a mirror around. But fortunately, my films have been working.”
Dunki opened to relatively lukewarm response on Thursday, earning around Rs 30 crore across India. This pales in comparison to the Rs 60 crore-plus and Rs 70 crore-plus openings delivered by Shah Rukh’s two previous 2023 blockbusters, Pathaan and Jawan. Reviews for Dunki have also been mixed, and the movie is expected to be outclassed this weekend by the Prabhas-starrer Salaar, which is headed for a Rs 60 crore debut today.
