The romantic drama Satyaprem Ki Katha, which hit theatres on June 29, is doing consistent business at the box office on weekdays. Though the Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani-starrer witnessed an almost 65% fall in its collections on Monday, the film managed to stabilise itself on Tuesday. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, Satyaprem Ki Katha earned Rs 4.20 cr (early estimates) on Tuesday.
The film is gearing up to cross the Rs 50 cr mark within its first week. Currently, its total box office collection stands at Rs 46.91 cr. Bollywood Hungama reported that the film’s performance in the three national chains, INOX, PVR and Cinepolis, is in the same range as Monday on Tuesday. However, after a below-par box office performance in the first half of 2023, Bollywood films have gotten a decent start to the second half of the year with Satyaprem Ki Katha, believes trade expert Girish Johar.
Satyaprem Ki Katha is the story of Sattu (Kartik) and Katha (Kiara). Sattu is madly in love with Katha. So, when her parents propose that they get married, he attempts to woo Katha earnestly.
The film has received a mixed reaction from the audience and film critics. The Indian Express’ film critic Shubhra Gupta felt the film has an ‘overcooked plot’ as she wrote in her review, “Somewhere under the overwrought and overcooked plot of Kartik Aaryan-Kiara Advani-starrer is a real film about two people dealing with troubled pasts, but it gets buried under everything else that the movie throws at us.”
As per a Bollywood Hungama report, Satyaprem Ki Katha will end its theatrical run with somewhere around Rs 70 crore. Though the film isn’t facing any competition at the box office, the recent Punjabi release Carry On Jatta 3 is quietly delivering the goods in North India as well. Now, it remains to be seen if the film will manage to pick up the pace over its second weekend.
