Rashmika Mandanna says her brain went ‘blank’ while shooting Animal’s slap sequence with Ranbir Kapoor: ‘People don’t write sequences like this…’

Actor Rashmika Mandanna was ‘surprised’ with her own performance in one of the sequences of Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s film Animal. In a new interview, she revisited shooting the scene, where she slaps Ranbir Kapoor’s character Ranvijay, in one take. But she doesn’t remember a thing that happened between the director calling “action” and “cut”.

While speaking to Pinkvilla, Rashmika shared that before starting the shoot of the scene, she had no idea what she would do in the scene. But she only remembered what Vanga told her before the scene. “The whole sequence was one take because there was a lot of moving. It wasn’t predictable. I didn’t know what I was going to do. Sandeep told me just to feel how a person in this situation would feel. I remember only this. I don’t remember anything between the action and the cut. I just can’t process it. My brain was just going blank,” Rashmika shared.

Once the scene was done, the actor couldn’t control her emotions. Rashmika added, “After the sequence, I was crying for real. I have slapped him, I am screaming, the chaos is happening and I go to Ranbir and I am like, ‘Was that okay? Are you okay?'” She even asked Vanga if she performed well.

However, she was happy about finishing the 8-9 minute long shot in one take and working on Animal gave her the ‘high’ of being an actor. “We finished that sequence in half a day. I loved it, and at that moment I realised that this is the high of being an actor. People don’t write sequences like this every time. I am so glad that I did this movie and this sequence. I was surprised with myself,” concluded Rashmika.

Animal was one of the biggest hits of 2023. The film did a business of over Rs 900 crore despite a polarised reaction from viewers. It also starred Bobby Deol, Anil Kapoor and Tripti Dimri in pivotal roles.
