Ranbir Kapoor starrer Bachna Ae Haseeno, which was his second film after Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya, completes 15 years on Tuesday. The film also starred Minissha Lamba, Bipasha Basu and Deepika Padukone and in a recent interview, Lamba recalled that Kapoor was “very shy” when they shot for the film.
Minissha and Ranbir’s characters in the film meet when they are in their late teens. She falls in love with him but he moves on and breaks her heart. The two shot for the Siddharth Anand film in Switzerland and Minissha, in a chat with Hindustan Times, recalled, “When we were shooting, Ranbir was very shy and kept to himself at that point. We didn’t interact that much, but the moment the camera turned on, there was a different kind of ease and chemistry.”
She recalled that they hardly took any retakes and were often done by the third take. “In fact, we required minimal takes, and our shots would be done in maximum third take,” she recollected. Ranbir’s debut film at the box office was a disaster but with Bachna Ae Haseeno, he got his first hit film.
The film’s title song had Ranbir dancing to his father’s hit number. The film remixed the song and while the remix was quite a hit at the time, Ranbir later said that he is against remakes. He told Times Now Digital that he did not have a say when the film released as he was very new at the time.
“I think very early on in my career also, I was very against remaking a film, even remaking a song. I remember that one song I did, Bachna Ae Haseeno, I also had a little issue but I was also very new at that time, I didn’t have a say in it. I believe I am in a position where I can create original content, I always believe that if there is a film that has been made, it has been made to the best abilities and it is very hard to kind of recreate it and do a better version of it,” he said.
