Veteran actor Shagufta Ali says working with megastar Rajnikanth in the 1993 Tamil action drama Uzhaippali was a “beautiful” experience as he was extremely kind and gracious towards her on sets.
The senior actor, who featured in a special appearance in a song in the film, said she was a huge Rajinikanth fan and when the offer came, had told her manager there is no way she is saying no even if she had to work with “whatever they were paying me.”
“On the first day, he met everyone, was extremely down to earth. We were three girls in the song, he met all of us. He was very respectful! During lunch break he asked why I was not having food, so I told him that I had roza. He knew a lot about roza, spoke a lot about Ramzan.
“In the evening during iftaar time, I had tears in my eyes when I learnt that he had decked an entire table with food for me. I was there for five-six days and the table would be full of a lavish food spread–from samosa to dosa, everything was there–during iftaari all evenings. I was so touched,” the actor told Rajshri Unplugged.
Shagufta Ali, who had come out with her financial troubles a years ago and revealed that she was broke, wished Rajinikanth knew about her state as she is certain he would have come forward to help.
“Few years ago when I was going through a low phase, I remembered him a lot. I didn’t have any contact of his–I still don’t–but if I did, I would love to meet him and share my problem with him. How Rohit Shetty, Johnny Lever, Ashoke Pandit, Ramesh Taurani ji came forward and helped me… At that time I missed him a lot because Rajni ji is so kindhearted and humble, I am sure he would have come forward and helped me,” she added.
