Raghu Ram found India’s Got Latent to be a ‘cathartic’ experience, compares it to AIB Roast: ‘There are no restrictions, no one takes you seriously’

Raghu Ram said that he found India's Got Latent to be a cathartic experience and compared to the infamous AIB Roast.

Weeks before Samay Raina deleted all the episodes of his show India’s Got Latent, Raghu Ram of Roadies fame appeared as one of the panelists on the show. In a recent interview, which was presumably recorded before Samay’s show landed in trouble for a joke made by Ranveer Allahbadia, Raghu shared his experience on the show. Raghu said that his appearance on the show might have offended others, but he found it to be a “cathartic” experience.

Talking to the YouTube channel GPlus, Raghu said that even though he is not a comedian, he has been on the infamous AIB Roast a well as India’s Got Latent. “The Latent experience was quite cathartic for me. This is a big word so let me you why. After many years, I felt like I opened up. The environment was so unrestrained, there were no restrictions and you can have fun without any fear because there, no one takes you seriously,” he said and added, “Like they say ‘jaisa des, vaisa bhes’ (When in Rome, do as the Romans do).”

He then proceeded to share that when he recently visited a school for his son’s admission, the teacher recognised him and told him as he was leaving, “‘I loved you in Latent’ and I was like ‘why did you watch it?'” He added, “It was a good experience and I guess many people would have gotten offended.” Raghu then recalled the AIB Roast that happened in 2014 and said, “Even at the AIB Roast, everyone was insulting each other but no one was taking it seriously. If you find a place where no one takes each other seriously, you have a freedom there.”

So far, more than 50 people who have been a part of India’s Got Latent have been called to record their statement. Raghu recorded his statement on Thursday. The controversy began after a clip featuring Ranveer Allahbadia was found offensive by many for its obscene language. YouTube India pulled down the particular episode shortly after. Later, Samay deleted all the episodes of his show.
