Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant hosted three days of pre-wedding festivities in Jamnagar and stunned the world with the scale of the festivities. The festivities had Rihanna performing her first ever concert in seven years and the biggest stars from Bollywood – Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Ranveer Singh, among many others – gave memorable performances. International popstars like Diljit Dosanjh and Akon also performed at the event hosted for over 1500 people in Gujarat.
In a recent interview with Vogue, Radhika explained why they chose Jamnagar as the venue for the festivities and said, “Choosing Jamnagar was our way of honoring our roots and the family’s legacy.” She added that she and Anant spend most of their time in Jamnagar so it holds a special place in their heart. “It’s the place where Anant works and where we spend much of our time, away from the hustle and bustle of city life. It is also where Anant’s grandmother, Kokilaben, was born and truly where our heart is,” she said. Their animal sanctuary Vantara is also located here and Radhika described it as their “karma bhoomi, or land of duty.”
Radhika also revealed that the three-day extravaganza was planned in just three months by Anant’s mother Nita Ambani and designer Manish Malhotra, who was the creative director of the event. Radhika said that a dupatta for one of her outfits was made in six months by Manish, and also shared that her veil for another one of her outfits was made in Banaras with “real gold threads.” The Vogue interview said that the couple “signed their wedding papers legally as 1,500 guests looked on.” Anant and Radhika are scheduled to get married in July.
The three-day festivities hosted many international dignitaries including Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg. Even after the festivities that hosted the celebrities were concluded, Ambanis put up another concert for the people of Jamnagar. This event, which was held on Wednesday, saw performances by Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Ranveer Singh, Arijit Singh, and a few others.
