Amid the ongoing succession battle over late businessman Sunjay Kapur’s massive estate, his widow Priya Sachdev stepped out in the public eye for the first time since his death, officially taking on the role of carrying forward his business legacy. She was seen attending the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA) Annual Convention at Delhi’s Taj Palace on Friday.
Priya has been inducted into the ACMA’s Executive Committee for 2025-26, and her updated professional bio now reflects this position, effective from September 12. Sunjay had previously held the position of chairperson at ACMA. At the event, Priya attended in her capacity as the director of Aureus Investment (AIPL) and as the non-executive director and chairperson of the CSR committee at Sona Comstar.
Her appearance as a top leader of the company comes amid the legal battle between her and Sunjay’s children with ex-wife Karisma Kapoor — Samaira Kapoor and Kiaan Kapoor. The two had approached the Delhi High Court, seeking their share in their father’s property and accusing Priya of forging his will. They have been joined by Sunjay’s sister, Mandhira Kapur, and mother, Rani Kapur, who have also raised concerns about the will.
Earlier, Mandhira Kapur, in an interview with Republic, had accused Priya of cornering their mother and forcefully making her sign certain papers. Rani herself had also written to the board of directors of Sona Comstar, alleging that she had been “forced to sign documents behind locked doors” and was “left to the mercy of a select few for survival.”
Speaking on behalf of Karisma, her lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani clarified that the actor is not a plaintiff in the case but is representing her children. He said, “Karisma Kapoor doesn’t want anything for herself, the entire aim of this litigation is to secure her children in the manner in which her late ex-husband wanted them to be secure, which is as per a trust deed, which dealt with his assets in India.”
Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court has heard Samaira and Kiaan’s plea and directed Priya to provide a list of all of Sunjay Kapur’s movable and immovable assets. Sunjay Kapur passed away in June this year following a freak accident while playing polo, after suffering cardiac arrest.
