Param Sundari Box Office Collection Day 1: The theatrical run of Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor’s Param Sundari has finally begun, and the film achieved decent numbers on its opening day. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film made Rs 7.25 crore on the first day. The stars had been extensively promoting Param Sundari with several public appearances together, and while the movie was no Saiyaara, it can still draw a decent opening if it witnesses an upward trend.
Sidharth and Janhvi are both desperate for a win; Sidharth hasn’t delivered a hit since the 2016 film Kapoor & Sons (73 crore). His last few theatrical films, such as Yodha (Rs 35 crore), Thank God (Rs 36 crore), and Marjaavaan (Rs 48 crore), couldn’t make a sizable dent on the box office. On the other hand, Janhvi’s last trip to the theatres was for Devara Part 1, starring Jr NTR, Saif Ali Khan, and Prakash Raj in pivotal roles, and the film’s India net collection was Rs 292 crore. However, her other film the same year, Mr and Mrs Mahi with Rajkummar Rao, earned Rs 35 crore.
Even though Param Sundari had over 1,200 shows in Delhi NCR and over 900 shows in Mumbai, the occupancy rates remained low throughout the day. The morning and the afternoon shows brought in 8.19% and 11.45%, while the evening and night shows achieved rates of 12.27% and 19.77%. The average occupancy rate barely made it to double digits at 12.27%. All the aforementioned Sidharth films had better or nearly identical opening days, which is cause for concern, as they slowly started bleeding shows until they were completely out of the running.
Param Sundari is produced by Maddock, which delivered massive hits such as Chhaava and Stree 2. Last year, the production house released the Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon-starrer Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, which made Rs 6.7 crore on opening day. Earlier this year, they released Bhool Chuk Maaf, starring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, which made Rs 7 crore on opening day.
Even though it’s been over half a month, War 2 and Coolie are still very much in the running at the box office, and Param Sundari still has to compete with them. The Hrithik Roshan-Jr NTR starrer has earned over Rs 350 crore worldwide, while Rajinikanth’s Coolie has crossed the Rs 500 crore mark. Director Tushar Jalota will be hoping that his film is able to duke it out with these big-budget films and earn some decent coin during its opening weekend.
