Moushumi Chatterjee’s candid demeanor was on full display at the recent Critics Choice Awards in Mumbai, where she didn’t hesitate to take a jibe at Jaya Bachchan. In a video that is being circulated on social media, Moushumi can be seen walking past photographers before turning back to quip, “I am a much better person than Jaya Bachchan,” with a smile. She then posed for the photographers.

Moushumi added, “Agar aap log nahi hote toh humara kya hota (What would have happened to us if you guys were not there?).” The veteran actor’s remark was a light-hearted comparison of her own friendly interactions with the photographers to what some perceive as Jaya Bachchan’s cold attitude towards them.

Earlier in Koffee With Karan, Jaya Bachchan’s daughter Shweta Bachchan spoke on her mother’s behaviour with the paparazzi. “She gets very claustrophobic when there are too many people around her. She also doesn’t like it when people take her pictures without asking her. She comes from that school of thought,” she had said.

In a earlier interview with Lehren TV, Moushumi Chatterjee recalled an incident from 1972 when she was replaced by Jaya Bachchan in Gulzar’s directorial Koshish after shooting for three days.

She said, “I shot for three days, and I could see what manipulations were done in those three days. I could see Jaya Bachchan’s secretary; she was there from morning to night at the office. And all of a sudden Gulzar da, whom I had known since Geetanjali and who used to teach my mother-in-law Urdu, said, ‘You have got to shoot from tomorrow to little late in the night.’ I had just had a baby and I said, ‘I cannot, I have a child at home. I can only shoot in one shift.’ Then he said in front of everybody, ‘You know so many actresses are there in line to take that spot.’ I got triggered, and I said, ‘Then take them.’ From then on, his assistant Daddu Sippy used to call me ‘Ma.’”
