Met Gala 2025: Diljit Dosanjh makes a royally dandy debut in Prabal Gurung, arriving like an Indian prince on the blue carpet, turning heads in a custom Prabal Gurung outfit. The two, who’ve worn their identity with pride and channelled cultural roots through style while smashing stereotypes, feel like a match tailor-made for the Met. Prabal has shaped his design to suit Dosanjh’s Punjabi heritage, rich in Indian craftsmanship, and fused it with his bold colour choices, dramatic silhouettes, and a sharp eye for mixing Western and Eastern aesthetics, all cinched beautifully at the waist.

For the night, Dosanjh is wearing outfit from the shelves of ace Nepalese-American designer Prabal Gurung. The designer has already worked with celebrities like Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone, Hollywood stars including Emma Watson, Hailee Steinfeld, Ashley Park, Mindy Kaling, singer Camila Cabello, Beyoncé, etc., for their famous Met Gala looks. For Diljit Dosanjh, though, the couture does all the talking, serving Maharaja vibes, a look no one expected. According to a report by The Times of India, the singer is reportedly the only Indian celebrity this year who has been invited to attend and dine at Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour’s exclusive post-Met soiree. The event is attended by only a select few each year, and this time, Dosanjh is said to be seated next to singer Shakira and other stars like Gayle King, Nicole Scherzinger, and more.
Dosanjh, who’s one of the most powerful names in the global music scene, having also rocked the international stages with sold-out stadiums during his Dil-Luminati World Tour in 2024, was among the most surprising entries at the Met Gala this time. After keeping it under wraps the whole time, the singer teased his arrival two days before the gala by flaunting the invite with an hourglass emoji, and the song “Met Gala” by Gunna. But then came the big reveal—he dropped a full-fledged video on his Instagram, moments after checking into his hotel room in the Big Apple. Alongside the welcome champagne and ice buckets, he read out the invitation and gave his hilarious take on the same.
Diljit captioned the post in Punjabi: “MET GALA Tomorrow. Daso fer ki paiye kal nu; halaa laa laa karauni an” (asking fans to tell him what to wear tomorrow, as he needs to stun everyone). In the video, the Hass Hass singer jokingly told his family and friends not to send him wedding invites anymore, because he just got his hands on one of the world’s most prestigious ones. He also spoke about the theme of dandyism, quipping “Kursi kaun chadta hai” (who lets go of power) while introducing the co-chairs of the event: Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and honorary chair LeBron James.
The singer also outlined a few rules of the gala, including no phone usage and photography being strictly prohibited. He joked about not being able to make a reel. But the most hilarious part? When he quipped in Punjabi: “Per person, per plate da hisaab hai” (It’s a per person, per plate situation), while reading the line that the invite was valid for one person only. He ended the video with a classic, “Punjabi aa gye oye!”
