Veteran filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt underwent an angioplasty at Mumbai’s HN Reliance Hospital in January. He is now “alive and kicking.”
The filmmaker told Bollywood Hungama, “My procedure was planned for January 16. It was during a routine body check-up that the doctors raised a ‘red flag’ and suggested that, since I am in good health, we must take a pre-emptive step and deal with this.” He added, “I was in the hands of the best of the best team of doctors at the H.N Reliance Hospital. The procedure was on January 16. I was home on January 18. I am alive and kicking.”
It was previously reported that he underwent a heart surgery but the filmmaker said that it is “technically incorrect to call this procedure a surgery.”
Bhatt’s son Rahul told The Times of India, , “But all’s well that ends well. He is alright now and back home. I cannot give you more details as too many people were not allowed in the hospital.”
The 74-year-old filmmaker became a grandfather last year after his daughter Alia Bhatt gave birth to Raha Kapoor. Talking about the same, he told PTI earlier, “It’s the most challenging role I have to play as a grandfather. When I heard that she is going to have a baby, (I was like) ‘Ah, my baby’s going to have a baby’.”
He added, “I had hardly recovered from the phenomenal challenge that she displayed in recent years and kind of stunned the nation as well. And her magic was all in itself awesome. Then the magic that she is going to be a vehicle of life left me awestruck.”
Mahesh Bhatt took a hiatus from direction for 21 years. He came back to the director’s chair with Sadak 2, starring Alia Bhatt, Aditya Roy Kapur and Sanjay Dutt. The film was panned by the critics.
