Sikander Kher, son of actor Kirron Kher, grew up with his stepdad Anupam Kher, even though his biological father was Gautam Berry. In a recent interview, when Sikander was asked about his father, the actor said that he had two fathers but none of them were ever too present in his life. He shared that when Kirron and Gautam were going through their divorce, he was living with his mother and Anupam, whom he addressed as his “father for life.” He also said that the love language between him and Anupam is “giving each other space.”
Talking on the YouTube channel Tape A Tale, Sikander, when asked about “father” said, “Two of them. I had two of them. My biological father and then my father for life. Gautam is my biological father who passed away 11 years ago and Anupam papa is Anupam papa who has been my father forever.” He then shared that when Anupam and Kirron married each other in 1985, Anupam was an upcoming actor and was working all the time, so he didn’t spend time much time with him.
“I have had two but not that much in my life because they both have been busy. When my mom and dad got divorced, I was with my mom and my other dad but my other dad was becoming an actor and flourishing and his career was picking up so he was mostly out of the house,” he said and added, “Fathers are fathers, man. Fathers and sons are hectic. Simple.”
When asked about the important life lessons he learnt from Anupam, Sikander recalled that Anupam taught him to never be afraid of failure. “Don’t be afraid of failure, you have nothing to lose, ever,” he recalled and shared another teaching from his father, “‘Bheega hua aadmi barish se nahi darta’ is such an amazing thing that i have learnt from him.”
Sikander was also asked about his “love language with his father” and he shared that their love language is all about giving each other space. “I don’t think we have a love language. It’s just ‘Kher saab, How’s it going?’ ‘Nothing.’ ‘Okay bye bye’. That’s it man. We give each other space. That’s the love language between him and me. I think that’s really important because that’s a love language as well. Giving each other space is a very big love language,” he said. He then added, “He is not breathing down my neck and telling me what to do and what not to do. And therefore, I am not like, ‘stay off’, so it’s really good. He is amazing that way. I think that’s great. That’s the love language.”
Sikander was last seen in Dev Patel’s Hollywood film Monkey Man and the Prime Video series Citadel Honey Bunny.
