The first teaser of Anurag Kashyap’s upcoming film Kennedy, which will have its premiere at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, was unveiled on Thursday. Kennedy stars Rahul Bhat and Sunny Leone in the lead roles and from the looks of it, the movie seems to be a typical Anurag Kashyap thriller, filled with intense action scenes, guns, dead bodies and murders.
The teaser of Kennedy opens with a man asking, ‘Bata kitna murder kiye tune,’ with intense music playing in the background. Further in the trailer, we meet Rahul Bhat who stabs and shoots people and throws them off the balcony without any signs of remorse. The makers have previously shared that Bhat is playing a former cop who is ‘seeking redemption’.
Soon, we also see Sunny Leone, as a seemingly rich lady, but the makers have refrained from divulging anything about her character in the trailer. If she is Bhat’s accomplice or his boss, we will know only when the film will hit theatres.
The official logline of Kennedy reads, “Presumed dead for years, Kennedy is an insomniac former cop who continues to officiate for a corrupt system while seeking redemption.”
Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap described his idea behind making Kennedy during his interaction with Variety. He said, “The idea was to create a character-driven dark nightmare thriller about redemption.” He also revealed that the inspiration for Kennedy came from the police noir novels of Jean-Patrick Manchette and the films of Jean-Pierre Melville.
Kennedy is produced by Zee Studios and Anurag’s Good Bad Films. The makers are yet to announce the film’s Indian release date.
