In Hindi films, particularly in the 90s, it was quite common to see heroes rescuing damsels in distress. Karisma Kapoor’s debut film, Prem Qaidi, follows this narrative pattern, featuring a scene where the lead actor, Harish, is supposed to save her from drowning. However, what’s intriguing is that behind the scenes, the situation was reversed. In a recent interaction, Harish admitted that while the film depicted him saving Karisma, she was the one who saved him in real life.
Speaking to Instant Bollywood, Harish said, “It appears in the film that Krishma dives into the pool and I save her, but in reality it was she who saved me. For the scene, I dived in to save Karisma but then I started drowning. I didn’t know swimming so I started drowning. People thought I was pulling a prank but Karisma understood that I am drowning and saved me. I literally was holding onto her clothes.”
Prem Qaidi was Karisma ‘s debut film. Directed by K. Murali Mohana Rao, it also starred Dalip Tahil, Paresh Rawal, Asrani, Shafi Inamdar and Bharat Bhushan in pivotal roles. It was a remake of the 1990 Telugu film Prema Khaidi.
On the work front, Karisma was last seen in Murder Mubarak. Directed by Homi Adajania, the mystery thriller film garnered praise from the critics and audience alike. It was released on Netflix.
