Veteran actor, Jaya Bachchan, known for her no-nonsense attitude towards the paparazzi, schooled them again at the screening of her film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani in Mumbai on Tuesday. A video of the incident shows Jaya firmly reprimanding the photographers for shouting her name.

Accompanied by her son, Abhishek Bachchan, and daughter, Shweta Bachchan, Jaya looked elegant in a stunning ethnic outfit for the screening of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. As she entered the venue, she stopped for a brief moment for Shweta and Abhishek to accompany her. Meanwhile, photographers started calling out to her to capture her picture. Irked by their shouting, Jaya shut them down and said, “I am not deaf. Chilao maat, aaram se baat karo (Don’t shout, talk softly).”

Jaya Bachchan has been known to maintain a reserved stance with the paparazzi, rarely giving in to posing for photographs and often expressing her disapproval of their behaviour. However, at a previous fashion film premiere by celebrity designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, she had explained why she doesn’t like their behaviour. She said, “Jab aisa hota hai na, toh main photo dene ko taiyaar hun (When it is like this, I am ready to give pictures),” while pointing at the proper setup where photographers are standing in a queue and waiting for the celebrities to arrive. She added, “But jab kuch personal hota hai aur aap log chup kar photo lete ho, merko acha nahi lagta (I don’t like it when you people hide and click pictures and intrude on my privacy).”

Jaya Bachchan’s next film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani stars Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Shabana Azmi and Dharmendra. It will hit the theatres on July 28.
