While maintaining a successful two-week run in theatres is quite an achievement in the OTT era, director Atlee Kumar’s Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Jawan, which hit the screens on September 7, is maintaining decent momentum at the box office, just as it has for the past week.
On the 34th day of its release on Tuesday, Jawan recorded an India nett collection of Rs 1.02 crore, as against the Rs 1.05 crore it eked out on Monday, industry tracker Sacnilk reported. Meanwhile, the actioner is expected to earn Rs 1.01 crore on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Jawan has so far grossed Rs 1,117 crore worldwide, with an overseas gross of Rs 376 crore. The film’s total India nett now stands at Rs 626.05 crore, as against Pathaan’s lifetime domestic collection of Rs 543 crore. The Siddharth Anand directorial, which was released in January this year, ended its theatrical run by recording a worldwide collection of 1,050 crore.
On Tuesday, Jawan witnessed an overall 10.56 per cent Hindi occupancy. Initially, during the morning shows, the movie recorded a 7.34 per cent occupancy within the Hindi market. While the percentage rose to 10.64 during the afternoon showings, it dipped a bit to 10.56 during the evening shows. The night screenings, however, witnessed better footfalls, recording 13.71 per cent occupancy.
Jawan had raked in Rs 75 crore on its first day of release, setting a new record for the biggest-ever debut in Bollywood history. The film, also featuring Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara, Deepika Padukone, Priyamani, Sunil Grover and Sanya Malhotra in key roles, amassed a total of Rs 80 crore across all languages on day four in theatres.
In her review of the film, The Indian Express’ Shubhra Gupta noted: “After a kinetic and zingy first hour, Shah Rukh Khan’s film slumps in bits, but as a whole, the movie is an unabashed massy entertainer with strong political messaging, making it a film which is very much of the moment.”
