The king of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan, might be thinking of taking his talent overseas, as speculations and rumours are on the rise about him joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The rumour mill started working overtime after a popular X account, MarvelLeaks22, which reports news and updates related to the studio, posted about Shah Rukh. The now-deleted tweet read, “NEWS/RUMOUR: Shah Rukh Khan (SRK) is rumoured to be in early talks with Marvel Studios for a role in a future project (NOT AVENGERS DOOMSDAY).” Nothing is confirmed, and the fact that the tweet no longer exists doesn’t bode well for all the fans, but the X account still has a picture of Shah Rukh posted on their account with no caption.
The actor has been asked about his plans to join Hollywood before as well, and for the most part, he has been clear about what he expects if Hollywood comes to him. While talking to Variety, Khan listed his reasons for not gracing the West up until now and said, “I don’t want to sound uppity, but it should be a role worthy of the status the Indian audience has given me. It should not let down. I come across as very flippant and happy-go-lucky, but I fully respect and realise the amount of adulation I have and how people adore me. People look up to what I do. People have given me too much respect. People have given me and my family everything that I have: people of India and all around the world, Indians and people from the subcontinent.”
Earlier during the 2008 Berlin Film Festival, Shah Rukh had said that he isn’t talented enough for Western films, saying he doesn’t know Kung Fu and salsa and he isn’t tall enough. When asked about his success in the Hindi industry, he said that he was shocked by the kind of reception he has gotten so far as an actor.
If Shah Rukh does decide to come to Marvel, there are definitely a number of characters he could potentially play. Some of the better-known characters of Indian descent are Kingo Sunen and Pavitr Prabhakar, and both have already appeared in previous films with Kumail Nanjiani and Karan Soni playing them, respectively. Other options could be Raz Malhotra (Giant Man), Neil Shaara (Thunderbird) and Paras Gavaskar (Indra), although it is unlikely that any of these heroes would find their way into the upcoming films.
Shah Rukh was last seen in Dunki (2023), alongside Vicky Kaushal, Taapsee Pannu, Anil Grover and Vishu Kaushal.
