Smita Jaykar who starred in films like Devdas and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, took a trip down the memory lane and recalled her experience sharing screen space with Salman Khan, Aishwarya Rai and Vinay Pathak among others. Opening up about shooting the song Dheel De De Re Bhaiya, Smita said that it took them 10 days to complete. She also revealed what happened on the sets until Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai came. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam was helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
In an interview with Majja, Smita said, “When we were shooting for the Kite song, the shift time was seven in the morning because everything was outdoor. When the clock hit 4 or 4:30, there used to be very few shots during the sundowner. So that time, until Salman and Aishwarya got ready, because she was the heroine and all that… but we, the other members got together by 7:30 a.m. (sic)”
She added, “Until the whole setup was done and until Aishwarya and Salman came, we used to play antakshari. The bonding between us for very strong. It took us 10 days to shoot the song. We had limited time.”
Smita played the role of Aishwarya’s mother in the film. The actor said that she got global recognition after Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. However, the actor recalled that when the film initially released, people called it a flop. She said, “Initially people said ‘flop, flop. Logon ko nai acha laga.’ But what happened after that is surprising.”
Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam was released in 1999.
