Actor Govind Namdev was a pivotal part of the 2012 film OMG – Oh My God! He played the role of a priest named Siddheshwar Maharaj. The actor is also seen in the sequel, OMG 2, directed by Amit Rai and starring Pankaj Tripathi in the lead role. But this time, the actor doesn’t have as much screen time. However, Namdev has no regrets about his role getting reduced on the editing table.
Addressing this, Namdev told Bollywood Hungama, “Khub kainchiyaan chali hain (A lot of my role was edited). The fear was that nothing wrong should happen with anything that is shown (in the movie). Kahin uska reaction galat nahi ho jaaye film ke saath, ye kar kar ke, bohot saare dialogues, bohot saare scenes, bohot saare reactions, sab kat te chale gaye (They were concerned that film shouldn’t show anything that hurts anybody’s sentiments, so a lot of my dialogues, scenes and reactions were removed).”
OMG 2, which endorses the idea of providing sex education to teenagers at school, received an ‘A’ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification. This reduced the accessibility of the film in theatres, although it did emerge as a hit.
Namdev said he remains unaffected by the length of his role, as long as it leaves an impact on the audience. He added, “But since people liked the film, I have no regrets about my dialogues and scenes being cut. Mera poora character hi bigad gaya (My entire character got ruined). But whatever I got is enough for me. For me, even one scene is enough. If what we are doing is creating an impact, then that is enough.”
OMG 2, also starring Akshay Kumar in an extended cameo, has earned over Rs 141 crore at the box office, despite clashing with Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2.
